Stylistic Notes
Andrew Rae’s poetry often balances traditional form with a natural, unforced voice. While he frequently writes in free verse, allowing thought and image to unfold organically, he is equally comfortable working within formal structures such as the sonnet, using established patterns to give shape and discipline to reflection. Regular metre, measured line length, and controlled stanzaic forms, including quatrains and occasional tercets, lend his work a quiet musicality. Even when not strictly adhering to iambic pentameter or classical rhyme schemes, there is usually an underlying rhythmic coherence and a clear structural arc, often turning at a natural volta where reflection deepens or resolves.
